Fall Publishing Internship
Overview:
Anthology Editions is an independent book publisher based in Brooklyn. An imprint of the record label Mexican Summer/Kemado Group, Anthology is dedicated to uncovering and presenting new narratives via thoughtful, exceptionally designed publications in the fields of art, music, and pop culture history.
This internship will work closely across the entire Anthology publishing team and will assist with all aspects of book development, sales, and marketing. They will gain experience in and exposure to numerous aspects of the art book industry and publishing as a whole. This position is based in Brooklyn.
- Pay: $15 per hour
- Hours: 18 hours per week
- Length: 3-4 months
- Sept through Dec 2024
Job Description:
Development
- Assist the editorial team as needed in day to day operations and administrative tasks relating to the development of book projects.
- Copyedit and proofread texts, and help prep written pieces for publication.
- Draft promotional materials and write copy for Anthology’s catalog, newsletter, one-sheets, and social media accounts.
- Assist in outreach to authors, artists, organizations and other contributors to book projects.
- Help track and manage the licensing and permissions for photos and artworks used in books.
- Offer thoughtful perspectives and areas of interest for developing future projects.
Sales & Marketing
- Conduct market research to identify potential target audiences for specific book genres or titles.
- Assist the sales team in preparing sales materials, presentations, and proposals.
- Update and maintain customer information.
- Send press materials when necessary for PR teams.
- Help coordinate logistics for book fairs.
- Support digital marketing efforts through social media management, email campaigns, and other online platforms.
- Help to ideate and curate content for online promotion.
Qualifications:
- An interest in books documenting art, music, and cultural history.
- Strong organizational skills and clear communication.
- Knowledge of grammar and style and working knowledge of Microsoft Word or Google Doc’s Review/Track Changes functions.
- Experience with data entry and some proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, etc.
- Some relevant experience in publishing, journalism, or a similar field is a plus but not required.
- Ability to research and identify customers and trends.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic insights.
- A keen mind for marketing practices, interest in book sales, and innovative practices.
