Photay is the nom de plume of electronic naturalist Evan Shornstein. His fifth solo album, Windswept, is, in short, an album about wind. The album began when Photay designed a synth patch to, in his own words, “mimic the ‘wind’ as a powerful, deep, unpredictable and at times overwhelming spirit.”
The resulting collection, which features collaborations from the likes of Laraaji and Carlos Niño, captures Photay’s signature sonic warmth and hardware pastoralism. Boomkat sums it up nicely, writing that Windswept is “a nine-song cycle of jazzy ambience, breaksy IDM and humid, Fourth World rave that celebrates the movement of air… proper sunrise material.”
